PIONEER INDIA NEWS HARYANA : People are keeping smartphones longer than ever before. According to Statista, most people in the US keep their device for at least two years and seven months before upgrading, with some using their phone until it breaks. If you have an older phone and you use WhatsApp constantly, you may need to upgrade to a newer device to continue using the app.

A report from CanalTech suggests that WhatsApp will stop updating and working on over 35 smartphones from vendors such as Apple, Huawei, Lenovo, LG, Motorola, and Samsung.

While brands like Huawei and LG have stopped selling phones in India, many people are still using phones from these brands, and are now forced to upgrade to new smartphones as they intend to use WhatsApp in the future. It's not just WhatsApp, many apps have similar policies and it's very easy to identify with WhatsApp given its more than three billion users.

The list includes some of the most popular smartphones from the early part of this decade, such as the Apple iPhone 6 and the first-generation iPhone SE. Similarly, users of popular Samsung phones such as the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S3 Mini, and Galaxy S4 Mini also need to upgrade to newer models to keep WhatsApp running.

Outdated hardware and software are the cause

Smartphone manufacturers support devices for a certain number of years. Due to software and hardware compatibility, developers like Meta optimize their apps for new software versions. You must have a device with at least Android 5 Lollipop or iOS 12 to run WhatsApp. While the report only lists popular smartphones, WhatsApp will stop working on more budget Android phones running Android 4 or older.

If you have one of these devices, we recommend upgrading before WhatsApp stops working, as it will be difficult to transfer data from the old device to the new one when WhatsApp is disabled. To ensure a smooth data transfer, back up your chats to Google Drive.
