In a circular issued by EPFO, it has been said that those employees who have completed all the assignments related to PF and have gone abroad will get exemption.
EPFO UAN/Aadhaar Update: There is relief news for the employees-account holders of the Employees Provident Fund Organization. EPFO has exempted some employees from Aadhaar seeding for claim settlement. Issuing a new circular on 29 November 2024, the requirement of Aadhaar linking has been abolished for some employees. This rule will be applicable for those special categories who are unable to obtain Aadhaar under the current circumstances.
Actually, generally if any employee has to settle PF claim, withdraw money from PF or settle claims, EPFO customers have to link their UAN (Universal Account Number) with Aadhaar, so that their claim process can be completed. But now EPFO has given a big relief by changing this rule for some categories of employees. Under this, now in some special cases, physical claims will be settled without Aadhaar.
These employees will get exemption
- In a circular issued by EPFO, it has been said that employees who have completed all their PF related assignments and have gone abroad will be exempted. Those who have left India and gone abroad and have taken citizenship there can also settle their claims without Aadhaar.
- Citizens of Nepal and citizens of Bhutan who fall within the definition of employee and are working for and covered by an establishment covered under the EPF&MP Act, but are not residing in India and consequently do not possess Aadhaar.
- All employees falling in these categories will be given the facility to prove their identity through other alternative documents like passport or citizenship certificate instead of Aadhaar. In particular, citizenship certificate can be used for citizens of Nepal and Bhutan.
EPFO's clarification regarding UAN
- EPFO has clarified that members will have to mandatorily generate UAN if they do not already have one. The requirement of linking Aadhaar with UAN has been done away with only because at this time they are unable to obtain the unique identity card.
- EPFO has made it clear that those who do not have Aadhaar linked can use other valid ID proofs to process the final settlement. These documents will be verified for authenticity.
