In the last few years, UPI payment has expanded in India. Now in such a situation, you will not be able to make UPI payment from 1 February 2025. Do not panic, explain the whole story to you in detail. If any UPI app uses special character (eg @, #, $ etc.) in the transaction ID, then that transaction will be canceled. There are many such apps in India that use special character in transaction IDs. However, most of the apps such as Paytm and PhonePe do not use special characters in transaction IDs.
Only alphanumeric will have to be used
The National Payment Corporation (NPCI) has directed all UPI apps to use alphanumeric (letter and digit) characters in transaction IDs only. If the apps do not follow this rule, then their transactions will be rejected after 1 February 2025. NPCI issued a circular on 9 January 2025. It said that from 1 February 2025, all UPI apps will not have to use special character in transaction ID.
App will not work
If an UPI app does not follow this rule, then UPI transaction will not work with that app. This rule is applicable for business users. But this will also affect common users. This is because if you use UPI from an app that does not follow this rule, then your payment will be canceled.
So raised these steps
NPCI has already given time to all UPI apps for this change so that they can make the transaction ID 35 digit alphanumeric. Apart from this, apps have also been advised to avoid duplicate transaction ID. Expert says that this change will improve the system. The transaction will be easy to track and there will also be an increase in security.
