Nowadays smartphones have become an important part of our life. Call, chat, banking, photos, documents and passwords – everything happens in our mobile only. In such a situation, when we sell our old phone or give it to someone else, only ‘factory reset’ is not enough.

According to cyber experts, if necessary security measures are not adopted, then your personal information can go into the wrong hands. Let’s know those 5 important and ‘secret’ steps, which every user should adopt before selling his mobile:

1. Encry the phone completely

It is necessary to encryp your phone before the factory reset. This process turns the old data into code in such a way that it is almost impossible to recover it.

In Android phones: Settings> Security> Encrypt Phone

In iPhone: IOS is defaulted by default, just apply passcode.

2. Logout from Google and Apple account

Many times people leave their Google or Apple account login even after resetting the phone. With this, the next user can reach the data to your account.

Google: Settings> Accounts> Google> Remove Account

Apple ID: Settings> (Your Name)> Sign Out

3. Remove all cloud backup and linked devices

Cloud services such as iCloud, Google Drive, ONEDRIVE have automatically backup. If you did not unlink the old device, no one can see your files.

Go to the cloud account and remove the old phone from the device list.

4. Don’t forget to remove SD card and SIM card

People often forget to remove SD card and SIM card when selling old phones. These can contain your photos, documents, contacts and banking OTP.

5. Remove all data manually before the factory reset

Manually delete photos, files and chats before resetting the factory. Then reset the phone again. This reduces the chances of data recovery even more.

Settings> System> Reset> Factory data reset

Caution is safety

Cybercrime to mobiles across the country is growing rapidly. In such a situation, your slightest negligence may be heavy. You can protect your personal information by adopting these five steps before selling the old phone.
