The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has repeatedly stated that no bank or official will ask for an OTP. Yet, many people fall prey to phone calls and share their OTP, only to have their money withdrawn. Remember, even bank employees don't ask for an OTP.
Never share your credit card number, expiry date, and CVV with anyone, even a friend or someone claiming to be a bank employee.
Fraudsters often call posing as a bank customer service. In a recent major fraud, a call center operating in Gurugram defrauded 350 SBI customers of ₹2.6 crore. They extracted information such as OTP, PIN, and CVV. Therefore, always check the number and never trust any stranger.
If you find a call or message suspicious, immediately inform your bank. You can also report it to the cyber police.
If you suspect someone has accessed your card information or notice a suspicious transaction, call your bank immediately and have your card blocked. You can easily block your card instantly using your bank's app.
