Mahindra has launched a special Formula E Edition of its popular electric SUV. The question now is: is it just a new look and some stickers, or does the price truly justify it? Price

Let’s first discuss the impact on your wallet, as this is where your decision often lies. The standard Mahindra BE 6 is priced in a very affordable range, starting at ₹18.90 lakh and going up to ₹27.65 lakh for the top variant. In comparison, the Formula E Edition is slightly more expensive. It’s launched in two variants: the FE2, priced at ₹23.69 lakh, and the FE3, priced at ₹24.49 lakh. Clearly, if you want Formula E exclusivity, you’ll have to pay around ₹5 lakh more than the entry-level standard model. What this difference gives you is the biggest story today.

Exterior Design

If you park the two vehicles side by side, you’ll notice the difference at a glance. The standard BE 6 looks clean, futuristic, and a SUV built for everyday use. Its design is soothing and elegant. On the other hand, the Formula E Edition exudes full-on racing vibes. It features a redesigned front bumper, circular projector lamps, gloss-black surrounds, and Firestorm Orange accents throughout the body.

It comes in exclusive paint options like Everest White, Firestorm Orange, Tango Red, and Stealth Black. Formula E decals, 12-stripe roof graphics (commemorating Mahindra’s 12 years in Formula E), and dark-tinted alloy wheels give it a very expressive look. The FE3 variant even gets Night Trail Carpet Lamps, which elevate the vehicle’s visual presence at night. Simply put, the standard BE 6 is a well-dressed professional, while the Formula E Edition is a rockstar.

Step inside, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into two different worlds. While both models share the same dual 12.3-inch screen layout and dashboard architecture, the Formula E Edition’s theme is completely different. Here, you get a contrasting interior of Firestorm Orange and Black. FIA branding on the seat belts, orange accents on the steering wheel and center controls, and plaques featuring the Formula E logo make you feel like you’re driving no ordinary SUV.

It also features unique elements like racecar-style start/stop flaps and translucent door inserts. Additionally, Formula E-inspired animations appear upon starting the vehicle, and unique synthesized sounds play during driving, creating a race driver-like experience. Other features like Harman Kardon audio, wireless smartphone connectivity, 5G, dual wireless charging, ADAS Level 2, and a 360-degree camera remain unchanged.

Features and Performance

This is where most people might be heartbroken, or even delighted. The simple fact is that both vehicles perform identically. Yes, you read that correctly. The Formula E Edition is simply a look and feel model, not a mechanical one. Both are powered by a 79 kWh battery pack and a rear-mounted motor that produces 282 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. The 0-100 kmph time is the same at 6.7 seconds, and the top speed is 202 kmph.

Range is also unchanged. Both offer a real-world range of approximately 500 km, with an ARAI-certified range of 682 km. Both charge from 20% to 80% in 20 minutes on a 180 kW DC fast charger. The only difference is the Intelligent Adaptive Suspension on the FE3 variant, which could improve the ride experience slightly.
