Punjab: The Aam Aadmi Party’s Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab has initiated a ‘revolution’ in the field of education, which is quietly building the future, away from noisy politics. The biggest symbol of this revolution is the Astronomy Lab established in the Government Senior Secondary Girls School, Mansa, which is being known as the first space science laboratory of Punjab.

Government started ‘School of Eminence’

This change is not limited to any one school, rather it is a structural change that is taking the entire government education system of the state towards excellence. The AAP government has launched the ‘Schools of Eminence’ model, under which students selected through entrance exams are being given special coaching for prestigious national competitive examinations like JEE, NEET and CLAT.

Along with this, schemes like ‘Schools of Brilliance’ and ‘Schools of Happiness’ for primary schools have also been started, where students are being provided a joyful and positive learning environment inspired by the educational methods of countries like Finland.

Development grant is sent to school accounts

The Mann government has ensured that this grand construction of education does not rest on the foundation of corruption. Therefore, the system of Direct Fund Transfer has been implemented for all development works and purchase of necessary equipment. Under this system, development grants are sent directly to the school accounts.

This has not only curbed misuse of funds, but also given school heads the autonomy to take quick decisions as per their needs. This transparent process ensures that the maximum share of the education budget is spent directly on the betterment of children, leaving no room for middlemen and bribery.

The government has also set an example of honesty on the human resources front. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has claimed that the state government has so far given more than 55,000 government jobs entirely on merit. This is a ‘foolproof mechanism’, where ‘parchi-kharchi’ (nepotism or bribery) has no place in the recruitment process.

Transparent recruitment of teachers and principals has ensured that schools today are staffed only by people who are dedicated to education, allowing them to completely focus on the academic development of children without any political or administrative pressure.
