A 23-year-old European tourist claimed she was denied entry into Thailand after immigration officers at Don Mueang International Airport determined she did not have sufficient funds on hand.

In a TikTok video, the woman, who goes by Kaya, shared her experience being detained at the airport in Bangkok on Dec. 2.

After disembarking, Kaya said she was taken aside by immigration officials and informed that she did not have enough money to enter the country, Mothership reported.

Thailand’s official entry rules require foreign tourists to provide evidence of sufficient financial means.

Travelers entering under a tourist visa or the visa exemption program must show proof of at least 20,000 baht (US$628) per person if requested, The Tiger reported.

Other required documents include proof of onward travel, such as a paid airline ticket, and accommodation details.

Consular officers may request additional documentation if deemed necessary.

Kaya said she is a frequent traveler to Thailand but had never been asked about her funds before.

She added that she was unaware of the minimum funds requirement and was not informed of the specific amount; otherwise, she would have withdrawn money from an ATM.

She was reportedly detained for about 13 hours before being deported to Vietnam, her point of departure.

Kaya described Don Mueang Airport as “notoriously strict on technicalities” and advised other tourists to avoid using it as a point of entry.

She later re-entered Thailand on Dec. 4 via Suvarnabhumi Airport without issues.
