The instant celeb effect: Haaland, Rosé cause Vietnamese pho shops’ popularity to skyrocket

Pho Hoang Viet shot to fame in November 2025 after appearing in the “One More Time” music video by the group AllDay Project. Every detail in the video, including the pho shop in the background, was scrutinized by fans and media.

Pho Hoang Viet has grown into a chain, with branches in key areas including Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Incheon. Its slogan, “It’s real Pho! HOANG VIET” and its logo were trademarked in April 2024.

On Nov. 7 Manchester City striker Erling Haaland posted a photo of himself outside Pho Cue Vietnamese Kitchen. Though he did not dine there, the snapshot was enough to send fans into a frenzy.

Located in Manchester’s Chinatown, the restaurant is known for its pho and Vietnamese street-food dishes. It opens six days a week (closed on Tuesdays), serving lunch from noon to 4 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Pho Cue blends traditional flavors with modern twists. It has a seasonal menu with diverse selections, ranging from beef and vegetarian pho to appetizers like spring rolls and banh xeo or crispy Vietnamese pancake.

Pho Tai, Paris, France

Tucked into Paris’s Chinatown, Pho Tai has been praised by the Financial Times for having the closest flavor to Hanoi. The shop has attracted Asian A-listers such as Tony Leung, Donnie Yen and Rosamund Kwan.

Insisting on freshness, the owners require the chef to prepare the pho broth daily in a five-hour process, resulting in deep but clean flavors.

The shop opens at 7:30 a.m. Its beef pho costs 14 euro (US$16).

Pho Thumb, Seoul, South Korea

In 2019 Blackpink’s Rosé posted a photo of a bowl of beef pho from a mobile pho truck on Instagram. Her fans immediately began hunting for the location, and Vietnamese fans soon identified it as a Pho Thumb food truck in Seoul’s Hongdae neighborhood.

The truck went viral overnight, leading the owners to open a permanent store.

Even in 2023 “Rosé pho” remained the restaurant’s star attraction. A bowl costs around 7,000 Korean won ($4.70).

In the early episodes of the drama “Something in the Rain,” actress Son Ye-jin and her co-stars eat lunch at a Vietnamese pho shop, instantly sending fans searching for the location.

The restaurant, il Pho, is in Seoul’s Mapo District. It had only been open for about a year when it appeared on screen.

The shop has also welcomed celebrity couple Kim Tae-hee and Rain. il Pho also serves other Vietnamese favorites such as spring rolls and fried rice.
