Roy Keane has hit out at Manchester United's interim setup after the club appointed Jonny Evans as a first‑team coach to work alongside Michael Carrick. Evansleft United as a player last summer and later returned to the club as a loans and pathways manager.
With Evans now rehired in a more senior coaching role, Keane questioned whether the former defender initially thought the phone call was for a 'kit manager' job, taking a brutal swipe at the club's recent appointments. Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of Carrick's first game in charge, the Manchester derby against Manchester City, Keane said: You're sitting there going, what's Jonny done? I like Jonny Evans rock solid, we signed him twice.
"It's not an issue with Jonny Evans, it's more an issue with the club and the decision making, who they're bringing in. Jonny Evans left Man United, about four, five, six weeks ago right? He obviously left as a summer player and they gave him the job as a loans manager, leaves a month or two ago.

"He wasn't here for 10 years doing it, a few months and United are letting a load of people go, staff every week, but Jonny walks away from that job - a couple weeks later, Darren Fletcher... My issue with Jonny is that he's got no coaching. He's not like he's walked into the academy for a few years.
"So he comes in withDarren Fletcher, this is when I worry about who's making decisions upstairs, so Fletcher brings him in and Fletcher has very little experience but he's worked at academy level.
Keane continued: "So Jonny gets a phone call from Man United, having left as a loans manager and gets asked if he wants to come back. I bet Jonny's thinking 'as a kit manager or to work with the U12's', no you're coming back to work with the first team, with Darren.
"Obviously a great opportunity for him, you have two games, if it don't go too well, listen, that's probably the end of that."

Asked if he'd be willing to help United, Keane replied: "No, probably not. I wouldn't want to walk with people above me who are dictating who your staff are, telling you what players you're bringing in.
"There's been chaos in the background, the previous manager hasn't helped himself, but I guarantee he'd come up one day and say listen, there were decisions made that he weren't happy with and I get it, he was stubborn and the results weren't great.
"There's no reason why these four new staff members, as much as I am concerned about them, can't get some momentum going, they can do."
Fletcher oversaw two games for United after taking over as caretaker following the departure of Ruben Amorim. Those matches were the 2-2 Premier League draw with Burnley and the 2-1 FA Cup third‑round defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
