Ranji Trophy 2026: Mohammed Shami Shines with Five-Wicket Haul Against Services
Cricket Gully | January 25, 2026 2:39 AM CST

Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami put on a stunning display during Bengal’s Ranji Trophy 2025-2026 match against Services at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground in Kalyani. He completely dismantled the opposition's batting order, taking down SG Rohilla, Ravi Chauhan, Rajat Paliwal, Vineet Dhankhar, and AP Sharma. This remarkable performance marked Shami's 14th five-wicket haul in First-Class cricket, solidifying his reputation as one of the top fast bowlers in the country.

With Mukesh Kumar chipping in with two wickets, Shami's impressive spell left Services reeling at 231/8 by the end of the day, especially after their modest first-innings total of 186.

They still trail by 102 runs, putting Bengal in a strong position to finish the match early on Day 4 and grab maximum points. For Shami, this performance is a crucial statement as he aims to reclaim his spot on the national team.

This stellar performance comes amid a public spat between Shami and the BCCI selection committee. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar has previously pointed to fitness issues and other undisclosed reasons for Shami’s recent exclusion from the Indian squad. In response, the 35-year-old pacer has pushed back against Agarkar’s claims, highlighting his consistent participation in domestic cricket as evidence that his fitness is not a concern.

Mumbai Triumph Over Hyderabad

In another match, Hyderabad found itself in a tough spot at the end of Day 3 in their clash against Mumbai at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. After Mumbai amassed a staggering total of 560 runs thanks to a double century from Sarfaraz Khan and a hundred from Siddhesh Lad, Hyderabad was bowled out for just 267 in their first innings.

Forced to follow on, the team led by Mohammed Siraj struggled again, collapsing to 166/7 in their second innings. Mumbai’s bowling attack, led by Mohit Avasthi and Musheer Khan with three wickets each, looks set to secure a commanding innings victory.

Uttar Pradesh is really struggling against Jharkhand, and it’s not looking good for them. They just couldn’t get into a groove with the bat, getting bowled out for a mere 176 in their first innings. Things went from bad to worse in their second innings, as they ended Day 3 at a disappointing 69/7.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand declared their first innings at an impressive 561/6, giving them a huge lead. Uttar Pradesh is now trailing by 316 runs and has a tough road ahead if they want to avoid a heavy defeat on the final day.
