Pakistan has shown solidarity with Bangladesh who were eliminated from the tournament. Pakistan is even considering boycotting its important match against India. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, after meeting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday, said that the board will take the final decision on participating in the T20 World Cup on Friday (January 30) or next Monday (February 2).

Naqvi confirmed on social media that the issue was discussed in detail during his meeting with the Prime Minister on Monday. According to sources, the Prime Minister told Naqvi that Pakistan should provide all possible help to Bangladesh, which was recently thrown out of the tournament starting on February 7. Sources said the Prime Minister was briefed about several conditions, including Pakistan not sending its team to the World Cup or participating in the tournament but boycotting the match against India on February 15.

PCB had earlier said that in view of the changing situation after Bangladesh’s exit from the tournament, the government will take the final decision on Pakistan’s participation in this tournament. Scotland has been included in this 20-team tournament in place of Bangladesh. Bangladesh had sought to shift their matches to Sri Lanka citing security concerns in India, but the ICC rejected the proposal, saying no such concrete threat existed.

Pakistan will begin its T20 World Cup campaign against Netherlands in Colombo on February 7. After which its matches will be against America (10 February), India (15 February) and Namibia (18 February). The PCB on Sunday announced a 15-man squad that includes veteran Babar Azam but does not include Haris Rauf. The team will be captained by Salman Ali Aga.
