Liverpool have been told to consider signing Harry Maguire from Manchester United in what would go down as one of the most shocking transfers in Premier League history. Maguire, 32, is out contract at the end of this season and United haven't made a decision on whether to hand him a new deal.
The defender recently returned from a long injury layoff and has started both games under new manager Michael Carrick. Maguire has been rock solid to help United beat both Manchester City and Arsenal, the latter of which he was named player of the match against.
Tipped for an England recall ahead of this summer's World Cup, United's £80million signing could go to the tournament as a free agent. In an outlandish claim by ex-Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann, his former club should be 'obviously' interested.
"You've got to give it to Harry Maguire because he got so much stick in the last few years and he always comes back," Hamann told CasinoBeats. "If he's available on a free then they obviously have to think about it because I think what Liverpool need is more depth at the back."

The last player to move directly between Old Trafford and Anfield was Phil Chisnall in 1964, but the power would be out of United's hands if Maguire became a free agent in June. Prior to Sunday's 3-2 win away to Arsenal, Carrick was asked about the former Leicester ace's future.
"I think it's just coming into that time of the season really, with contracts and, obviously, January is January and the window, so I'm kind of working my way through that and coming towards the end of the season, in terms of contracts and decisions," Carrick explained. "That will obviously be taken and discussed in good time really, and at the right time."
Hamann also thinks that Liverpool should be looking at two other centre-backs, both of whom are more likely to make the move to Anfield than Maguire. "Mickey van de Ven is doing really well for Spurs and there's a player at [Borussia] Dortmund, Nico Schlotterbeck," Hamann added.
Should Liverpool ever sign a player from Manchester United? Have your say in the comments section.
"He's (Schlotterbeck) in talks with the club on whether he's going to extend his contract. Schlotterbeck has really taken on a leading role at Dortmund in the last 18 months.
"He is probably our best centre-back in the national team. He'll certainly play at the World Cup for Germany. He'd be a player. He's got one year left on the contract.
"I'm sure that Liverpool inquired about him. He wouldn't be the worst choice. He's a left-footed player as well."
