Ranveer Singh’s controversial video

At the time of the release of Ranveer Singh’s recent film “Dhurandhar”, a video went viral on social media. In this video, Ranveer was seen imitating Kantara’s Daiva, while Rishabh Shetty was present there and had forbidden Ranveer from doing so. Despite this, Ranveer continued his actions. After this video went viral, he faced a lot of criticism, due to which he also shared a post apologizing. After the release of “Dhurandhar”, Ranveer was praised for his character Hamza. Now, this matter has come into discussion again.

Details of FIR

An FIR has been registered against Ranveer Singh at High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru. In this FIR, he has been accused of insulting Hindu religious sentiments and insulting Chamundi Daiva tradition. This case has been registered under sections 196, 299 and 302 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). The complainant, Bengaluru-based lawyer Prashant Methal, has filed the complaint. According to the FIR, the incident took place during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa on November 28, 2025.

Complainant’s allegations

The complainant says that Ranveer made derogatory comments and facial expressions on the stage, which insulted the revered elements of the Daiva tradition. The FIR mentions that the complainant found a video of this performance on the Instagram account of Karnataka State Billiards Association on December 2, 2025. The video was reportedly shared by an account called Brief Chat.

Religious sentiments of Karnataka

In her complaint, Methal also alleged that Ranveer copied the expressions associated with Panjurli and Guliga Daiva in an obscene and insulting manner. He also said that Ranveer portrayed Chamundi Daiva as a female ghost, who is a symbol of divine feminine power in the coastal areas of Karnataka. Devotees give him immense respect. The complaint makes it clear that showing the goddess as a ghost is a serious misrepresentation which has hurt religious sentiments. The case has been sent to the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court of Bengaluru and will be heard on April 8.
