In a shocking crime that has sent waves across the nation, a migrant family from Bihar was brutally murdered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The victims—Gaurav Kumar (24), his wife Meenu Kumari (22), and their two-year-old son Birmani—were attacked in a horrifying sequence of events that began with the husband and ended with the entire family being wiped out.
Husband Killed First, Then Wife and ChildPolice investigations reveal that the tragedy unfolded on the night of January 25th. Gaurav, who had moved to Chennai in search of work along with his wife and child, was reportedly socializing with some migrant workers. Allegedly, three accused men attempted to molest Gaurav’s wife, Meenu. When Gaurav intervened to protect her, he was attacked with an iron rod and killed on the spot.
The attackers then brutally murdered Meenu and little Birmani to erase any witnesses and destroy evidence of the crime.
Bodies Disposed in Canal and DustbinGaurav’s body was discovered the next day, stuffed in a sack in the Adyar area, triggering panic and outrage among police. Following the arrests of three accused men, authorities recovered the body of the two-year-old child from the Buckingham Canal.
Meenu Kumari’s body has not yet been found; police investigations suggest that it may have been dumped in a large garbage bin near Indira Nagar station, and municipal teams are conducting searches.
Police Action and Public ShockThe brutality of the killings has shocked both Chennai residents and the migrant community. The police have arrested three suspects, who have confessed to the crime, and further investigations are underway to recover Meenu’s body and collect additional evidence.
This gruesome case highlights the vulnerabilities of migrant workers in unfamiliar cities and has sparked nationwide outrage over the safety of families living far from home.
