Ishq Fakir – The first on-screen musical collaboration of actors Prateik Smita Patil and Priya Banerjee Patil has arrived with the release of their new song, Ishq Fakir, a project that blends classical romance with a contemporary visual narrative.

The song marks the first time the real-life couple has appeared together in a music video, making the release a personal and professional milestone for both artists. Ishq Fakir draws creative inspiration from the legendary love story of Heer and Ranjha, reimagined through a modern lens while retaining the emotional depth associated with the folklore.
A Modern Retelling Rooted in Timeless Romance
Set against a backdrop of emotional reunion, the music video follows the journey of a woman who returns to a place tied to her past, reopening memories of a love that was once interrupted by circumstances beyond control. As the narrative unfolds, the video explores themes of longing, devotion, and the enduring pull of a bond that time and distance could not erase.
The makers chose the Heer-Ranjha legend as a reference point early in the creative process. According to Prateik Smita Patil, the framework helped shape the emotional tone of the project. He shared that the love story’s intensity made it easier for both actors to connect with the characters, even though the modern adaptation avoids the tragic conclusion associated with the original folklore.
Creative Involvement Beyond Performance
Prateik revealed that both he and Priya were deeply involved in the conceptual development of the video. Beyond acting, the couple contributed to the storytelling, screenplay, and overall visual vision of the project. He noted that love stories of such depth are rarely portrayed in contemporary times, making Ishq Fakir an opportunity to reflect a more profound and lasting form of romance on screen.
The actor added that the goal was to respectfully capture the spirit of eternal love without dramatization, allowing emotions to flow naturally through the visuals and performances.
Priya Banerjee on Choosing the Project
Priya Banerjee Patil described her initial reaction to the song as instantly positive. When producer Jatin Dharna introduced the project, she said the idea and mood of the track stood out immediately. Having never worked together on a music video before, the couple saw Ishq Fakir as a fresh and meaningful creative experience.
She emphasized that the song’s tone and melody played a key role in their decision to take it on, describing the overall vibe as subtle and emotionally rich rather than overtly dramatic.
Shooting in Punjab Adds Authenticity
The music video was filmed in Punjab, with several scenes shot at real locations rather than constructed sets. Priya shared that the team worked in a small village near Chandigarh, marking the first time both actors had filmed in a rural Punjabi setting. She described the experience as immersive, allowing them to explore local culture and cuisine while staying connected to the environment portrayed on screen.
Despite the demanding schedule, Priya said the shoot was enjoyable and smooth. Working alongside JMP Music, she noted, brought its own set of challenges, but the excitement surrounding the project made the effort worthwhile.
Working Together as a Married Couple
Priya also reflected on the dynamics of working with one’s spouse, noting that it removes the usual pressures associated with performance. Instead of acting out emotions, she explained, the moments felt genuine and lived-in. This comfort, she said, helped both of them remain present in each scene rather than focusing on technicalities.
She added that collaborating with a partner allows for a deeper emotional connection on screen, as reactions come naturally rather than through rehearsed expressions.
About the Song and Its Makers
Ishq Fakir has been sung, written, and composed by Alam Gir Khan. The song is presented by producer Jatin Dharna, released under the banner of JMP Music, and directed by Amitesh Sanghani. With its blend of soulful music and restrained storytelling, the track aims to offer audiences a romantic narrative that feels both familiar and refreshingly personal.
