Brunei’s state broadcaster RTB News announced that the baby girl was born at 8:50 a.m. on Sunday.

“To mark the birth, a 17-gun salute was fired from the compound of Istana Nurul Iman,” its statement said.

People magazine reported that the newborn royal will not be included in the line of succession to the Bruneian throne. Under the Succession and Regency Proclamation of 1959, which is enshrined in Brunei’s constitution, only male descendants are eligible to inherit the throne.

One of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s 10 children, Prince Mateen, 35, is fifth in line to the throne. In October 2025, he and Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah, 32, announced they were expecting their first child.

“And then there were 3,” Prince Mateen wrote in an Instagram post at the time, sharing a black-and-white photograph of the couple holding hands as his wife cradled her baby bump.

The couple married in January 2024 in a lavish 10-day wedding that attracted international attention.

Prince Mateen is a polo enthusiast who has represented Brunei at the 2017 and 2019 SEA Games.

In 2016, Tatler magazine named him one of Asia’s most eligible bachelors.

Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah is an entrepreneur in the cultural tourism sector and a graduate of the University of Bath in the U.K.

She has close ties to Brunei’s royal family. Her grandfather Pehin Dato Isa served as a government adviser in the 1960s and 1970s, while her brother Danial Deen Isa-Kalebic is a close friend of Prince Mateen.

Her sister-in-law Janetira Attaskulchai Deen has links to Thailand’s Attaskulchai family, which is known for the Betagen yogurt brand.
