Cua Tung Beach’s fall from French retreat to coastal erosion

Since 2003 Quang Tri Province has been carrying out construction works near the mouth of the Ben Hai River, including sea dikes, the Cua Tung fishing port and Cua Tung Bridge.
These changed the natural water flows, causing coastal erosion at Cua Tung Beach.
Over time the sand has been washed away and turned yellow, and the beach has become steeper. Waves now crash against the embankments, leaving visitors nostalgic for the once smooth sands and gentle waters.
In response, Quang Tri authorities have held a number of workshops, inviting scientists and other experts to study and propose measures to restore Cua Tung Beach.
But no plan has yet been announced.
