Indian Premier League 2026 is scheduled to start from March 28. This time instead of releasing the complete schedule, only the schedule of the first 20 matches has been released. Now Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President Rajeev Shukla has also told the real reason behind this. Rajiv Shukla said while talking to the media on Thursday that when the assembly elections of the states will be announced, then the further schedule will be released accordingly. Election dates are being watched because elections are to be held in West Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadu and IPL matches are also to be played in these states.
This 19th season of IPL will start with the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Last season, RCB won the title by defeating Hyderabad. The schedule of 20 matches that has been released so far is to be played at a total of 10 venues. These places are Bengaluru, Mumbai, Guwahati, New Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. The schedule so far is from March 28 to April 12. Elections are expected to be announced soon and further schedule will be released accordingly.
IPL will happen on time – Rajeev Shukla
Now Rajeev Shukla has said about this, ‘IPL 2026 will happen as per its scheduled schedule. We have released the schedule of 20 matches and the schedule of the remaining matches will be released after the election dates are announced by the Election Commission.
The picture is still not clear regarding the match to be held in Bengaluru. BCCI has also said in its statement that the match to be held on March 13 will be played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium only after getting the permission of the expert committee formed by the Karnataka government. Now the committee will make a visit and all the arrangements for the match day will have to be shown before it. Only when the committee is satisfied about this will permission be given to play the match here.
As per the plan so far, RCB has played its 5 home matches in Bangalore and 2 matches in Jaipur.
