55 LPG cylinders recovered from leader’s house in Hapur, hoarding busted amid gas crisis

Hapur: In Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh, the administration has taken the biggest action so far against illegal hoarding and black marketing. On one hand, due to the ongoing tension in the Middle East, the general public is standing in line for one cylinder of LPG, on the other hand, a ‘treasure’ of gas cylinders has been found inside the house of a local leader in Hapur. The administration raided the residence of leader Abdul Rehan and seized 55 filled cylinders.

Officials also surprised to see ‘huge stock’ amid shortage of LPG

For the last several days, Hapur administration was receiving complaints that artificial shortage of gas was being created in the district. It was reported that some influential people are taking advantage of the crisis and storing cylinders illegally. Based on this input, when the team raided Abdul Rehan’s house, the sight was shocking. There were piles of cylinders in the store room and corners of the house. The officials immediately took possession of all 55 cylinders and handed them over to the concerned department.

Huge anger among the general public: “Line us, supply them at home”

As soon as the news of this raid spread, local residents became angry. People allege that even after making rounds of gas agencies and waiting for weeks, they are returned empty handed, while black marketing of cylinders is taking place in the houses of politicians and influential people. Local people say that due to such hoarding, cylinders are not available in the market and the kitchen budget of the common man has been completely ruined.

Police will scrutinize the records of gas agencies, case registered

The administration is now investigating how such a large number of cylinders reached a single address? Officials have started scanning the records of gas agencies to find out in which names these cylinders were booked and where in the distribution chain the breach took place.

  • legal action: Hapur Dehat police station in-charge Inspector Neeraj said that a case has been registered against the accused Abdul Rehan. Essential Commodities Act A case has been registered under.

  • Bail and investigation: Since the punishment provision in this case is less than 7 years, hence as per the legal process the accused has currently got bail from the police station, but the police will soon file a charge sheet in the court.

The administration has given a strict warning that as per the instructions of the Chief Minister, anyone who encroaches on the rights of the public during the time of crisis will not be spared.
