Furthermore, the company has made unauthorized access more difficult by integrating real-time threat detection capabilities. This New Feature Will Prevent Spoofing

In spoofing scams, fraudsters impersonate bank officials or other authorities to defraud unsuspecting individuals. Consequently, users worldwide suffer financial losses amounting to billions of rupees every year. To combat this, Google has introduced the “Verified Financial Calls” feature. This feature will be available on devices running Android 11 or later versions and will operate in the background in conjunction with banking applications. Whenever an incoming call is received on your phone, the system will automatically request verification from the respective bank. If the bank fails to verify the call, the system will automatically disconnect it.

AI to Keep a Watchful Eye on Apps

Android 17 will utilize the power of AI to monitor installed applications. If an app attempts to engage in malicious behavior—such as forwarding messages or performing other suspicious activities—after installation, the new “Live Threat Detection” system will identify these patterns using on-device AI and immediately alert the user. Additionally, this system will scan for malware the moment an app is downloaded, ensuring the user is alerted before they even proceed to install it.

Stealing Phones Just Got Harder

The new update will render a stolen phone completely useless. It introduces a new biometric lock specifically for the ‘Mark as Lost’ feature. This means that even if a thief manages to discover your passcode after stealing the phone, they still won’t be able to disable the tracking function. Furthermore, accessing the device will require the user’s fingerprint or facial scan. If someone snatches your phone and flees, the new update will instantly activate both the remote lock and the theft detection lock.

One-Time Permission for Location Sharing

The Android 17 update will feature a ‘Temporary Location’ button. Instead of granting an app permanent access to your GPS data, this feature allows it to access your location for a single, specific instance. Consequently, once the task is completed, the app will no longer be able to continuously track your location.
