Following weeks of elevated temperatures and muggy conditions post-mid-June downpours, Maharashtra is set to experience renewed precipitation activity. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a detailed regional weather forecast for July 20, 2026, indicating light to moderate showers across the coastal Konkan belt, Western Maharashtra, and Marathwada, alongside heightened rainfall warnings for elevated terrain.
Region-Wise Weather Forecast for Maharashtra
According to the IMD, local weather dynamics will trigger light to moderate rain across urban centres and rural belts:
Konkan Belt: Palghar and Mumbai are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall. Moderate downpours are expected across Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts.
North Maharashtra: Dhule, Nandurbar, and Ahilyanagar districts are likely to receive light showers, while Jalgaon district faces light rain coupled with isolated thunderstorms. Nashik city will witness light to moderate rain, with enhanced intensity over the Nashik Ghatmatha region.
Western Maharashtra & Yellow Alerts: Light showers are forecast for the plains across Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Solapur, and Sangli. However, the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for isolated heavy rainfall across the Pune Ghatmatha and Satara Ghatmatha regions.
Marathwada: Light rain accompanied by gusty winds is anticipated in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, and Hingoli, while isolated light showers remain probable across Beed, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv districts.
Vidarbha: Scattered light rainfall remains likely across all ten districts, including Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, and Washim.
Rain Fury Kills 17 Across North and East India; J&K Worst Hit
While Maharashtra prepares for wet spells, extreme weather conditions triggered severe destruction across Northern and Eastern India, resulting in at least 17 fatalities over the weekend.
Jammu and Kashmir recorded 12 out of the 17 deaths as relentless cloudbursts and torrential downpours caused sudden flash floods and severe landslides across the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. The worst destruction occurred in Poonch’s Surankote tehsil, where 10 deaths were confirmed alongside widespread damage to residential structures and road networks. Two additional casualties were reported from Rajouri due to sweeping floodwaters.
The escalation forced Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to cancel his scheduled political engagements in New Delhi and return to Jammu to direct emergency relief, rescue operations, and infrastructure restoration meetings at the Civil Secretariat.
