Christos Tzolis left Cardiff after setting up two of the Gunners’ three goals in the Community Shield.
Mikel Arteta has lavished praise on new recruit Christos Tzolis following his competitive debut for Arsenal and explained which “massive quality” the winger brings.
Arsenal paid £34 million, a Belgian Pro League record, to bring Tzolis in from Club Brugge this summer.
The left winger had already featured for the Gunners during pre-season, but Sunday’s Community Shield marked his first competitive appearance.
He produced two assists in an outstanding display as Arsenal secured a 3-0 win over Manchester City to claim their first piece of silverware of the season.
“He’s come into the team and really organically he’s fitted in,” Arteta said about Tzolis afterwards.
“He’s a really intelligent boy, and he has a massive quality, which is that in the last 30 metres, he is so composed to pick people out in and around the box or to finish.
“He has shown that two or three times, and he was decisive.”
The Arsenal manager was asked if his quality in the final 30 metres can be coached and whether he is capable of improving even further.
“That is a natural quality,” Arteta replied. “With more quality around him, the numbers will be higher. It is not a coincidence.
“He is a really consistent player in everything he does and, yes, I’m really impressed with him.”
