LPG Rates Today (August 19, 2026): The wedding season is approaching, and a series of festivals lies ahead. Naturally, concerns regarding LPG cylinder supplies might arise. Addressing this uncertainty, the government has taken a measure to ensure there is no shortage of LPG in the country in the coming days.
What directives has the government issued?
In an official order issued on August 13, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas set a maximum daily production quota for cooking gas (LPG) for the country's public and private oil refineries and upstream oil companies.
This move follows recent disruptions to supply routes via the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, caused by the ongoing crisis involving the US and Iran. These disruptions had jeopardized LPG supplies reaching India from abroad.
To shield the public from such future scenarios, the government has announced the creation of a substantial LPG 'supply buffer' (emergency stock) within the country. It has directed 21 to 24 refineries and oil companies to utilize their full capacity and collectively ensure a maximum daily production of 63,810 metric tonnes of LPG.
No difficulties during times of crisis
The assigned base quotas will offer refineries flexibility during normal times; however, should a major supply crisis hit the international market, these directives will immediately come into effect. At that point, refineries will be required to meet the quotas without fail.
What is the price of LPG today?
Today, Tuesday, August 18, LPG prices across the country remain completely stable. Recently, on August 1, the prices of commercial gas cylinders were slashed significantly by ₹192–₹209.
