New Delhi, Aug 26:
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold its elections and annual general meeting (AGM) at its headquarters in Mumbai on September 18, with appointments to the IPL Governing Council among the key issues on the agenda.
The board has informed its member associations about the electoral process and asked them to nominate representatives who will be included in the electoral roll for the elections.
According to the schedule, members have until August 31 to submit applications for their representatives.
The draft electoral roll will be published on September 1, while candidates can file nominations on September 9 and 10 between 11 am and 4 pm.
The final list of contesting candidates is scheduled to be released on September 12. The election will then take place on September 18, with the results expected to be announced the same day.
One of the major agenda items will be the selection of two representatives to the IPL Governing Council.
The BCCI will also induct one representative from the Indian Cricketers’ Association into the IPL structure.
Another important item concerns the appointment of the BCCI’s representative or representatives to the International Cricket Council.
The decisions could have wider implications for the administration of Indian cricket and the governance of the world’s richest domestic T20 competition.
The AGM could also mark an important step in the expansion of organised cricket to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The meeting will consider a proposal to grant associate membership to the Cricket Association Andaman & Nicobar, which currently has no affiliation with the BCCI.
The proposal would represent the board’s first formal move towards bringing cricket in the Union Territory under its administrative umbrella.
