Shri Krishna Janmashtami, the holy festival of the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, is being celebrated with full devotion and pomp across the country on 4th September (Friday). Under the official bank holiday calendar released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami has been declared a public holiday (Negotiable Instruments Act Holiday) for banks in most of the states and major banking circles of the country. Due to this, there will be a long banking weekend of 3 days from Friday to Sunday in many states. In which states and cities banks will remain closed on September 4? And Uttarakhand (Dehradun). West and South India: Gujarat (Ahmedabad), Telangana (Hyderabad), Andhra Pradesh (Vijayawada), Tamil Nadu (Chennai) and Jammu and Kashmir (Srinagar and Jammu). Eastern and Northeastern states: Odisha (Bhubaneswar), Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim (Gangtok) and Meghalaya (Shillong). In which states can banks open normally? As per RBI rules, some religious and regional festivals are not gazetted simultaneously in the entire country. In some local circles of Assam, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal and Maharashtra, Janmashtami holiday is fixed according to a different date (like Dahi Handi or specific regional calendar) under the holiday matrix. ATMs and Cash Deposit Machines (CDM): Cash withdrawal and passbook printing facilities will be available 24 hours normally in all ATMs across the country. UPI & IMPS: Instant transfer of money through Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and BHIM UPI will continue without any interruption. Internet Banking and Mobile App: All the facilities of bill payment, fund transfer, FD booking and card blocking will remain operational through the bank's mobile app and net banking. However, work to check clearance and large offline clearing houses to NEFT/RTGS will be processed only after the opening of bank branches. Therefore, it would be wise to settle any check payment on time.
