Manali:

The renowned Sher-e-Punjab hotel and restaurant in Manali, a beloved destination for visitors, was completely demolished within hours as the swollen Beas River inundated the Bahang area on the night of August 25, 2025.

Only the entrance wall remains, serving as a stark reminder of the flash flood devastation that has struck Himachal Pradesh’s tourist hub.

Heavy rainfall over the last day has caused flash floods and landslides throughout the region, bringing back haunting memories of the catastrophic floods in 2023. The Sher-e-Punjab hotel, situated close to the riverbank, suffered the worst of the Beas River's wrath. Locals reported a loud crash around midnight as the river overflowed, sweeping away the entire establishment along with its furnishings and kitchen equipment.

For many years, Sher-e-Punjab was more than just a restaurant; it was a landmark. Renowned for its authentic North Indian dishes and warm Punjabi hospitality, the hotel had welcomed numerous high-profile guests, including politicians, film stars, and sports figures. It was especially favored by tourists from Punjab and Delhi, who regarded it as an essential stop during their visits to Manali.

In recent times, Sher-e-Punjab also became a favorite among food vloggers and travel influencers, who often showcased its lavish thalis and tandoori specialties. Its picturesque riverside setting added to its allure, but unfortunately, it also made it more susceptible to such disasters.

“This is not merely the destruction of a building; it signifies the loss of a piece of Manali’s heritage,” expressed Harvinder Singh, a local guide who had been bringing tourists to the hotel for over ten years.

In addition to the hotel, numerous nearby shops and residences in Bahang were also swept away. The district administration has relocated dozens of families to safer areas as water levels remain perilously high. Authorities are advising both locals and tourists to steer clear of riverbanks and have halted all traffic along the Manali-Kullu section of NH-3.
