Intel’s Technology Tour Event
At this year’s Technology Tour event, Intel showcased its latest Panther Lake CPU architecture. Along with this, the company has also introduced significant improvements in its AI-enabled graphics technology XeSS. With this new update, XeSS is now on par with Nvidia’s DLSS, and Intel Arc GPU users will soon be able to take advantage of Multi-Frame Generation (MFG).
Working of XeSS-MFG Technology
The XeSS-MFG technology works similarly to Nvidia’s DLSS. In this, the GPU renders the frame in the usual way and stores it in VRAM. When the next frame is ready, a new frame is generated by processing both the frames through AI algorithms. This process increases the number of frames on the screen, making the gaming experience more smooth and responsive.
Impact on input lag
However, the use of multi-frame generation may affect input lag. The faster the normal frames are rendered, the less input lag there will be. Experts recommend that it should only be used with upscaling and in games with high frame rates, such as 60 FPS or higher.
demo display
Intel also presented a demo of XeSS-MFG on its Arc GPU. The Painkiller Reboot game was running at 45-50 FPS at 1080p on a Panther Lake laptop, but with 4x multi-frame generation enabled the FPS reached around 200. No visual artifacts or noticeable input lag were observed during the demo, indicating that the XeSS-MFG technology can significantly improve the gaming experience.
Availability of XeSS-MFG
Currently, XeSS-MFG is only available for Intel Arc GPUs. Intel has clarified that there are no plans to launch it for other GPUs. The benefits of XeSS technology will be available only to Intel Arc users, which shows that Intel has further strengthened its position in graphics technology.
AMD status
With this update, AMD remains the only major GPU manufacturer that does not have multi-frame generation technology. This technology is mainly to demonstrate who is at the forefront of graphics and AI technology. With both XeSS-MFG and DLSS, the level of visual quality and smoothness in the gaming industry has increased significantly, and this move by Intel will make its Arc GPU lineup more attractive.
