Many people in the country have long-pending cases pending in court, which cannot be resolved quickly. Lok Adalats are held periodically to resolve such cases quickly and amicably. The purpose of Lok Adalats is to provide relief to people from lengthy court proceedings and resolve disputes in a short time. Here, cases are settled based on a compromise reached with the consent of both parties.

This year, the National Lok Adalat will be held on March 14th in Patna, the capital of Bihar. It is being organized by the District Legal Services Authority. According to the district administration, the Lok Adalat will begin at 10:30 am. Its primary objective is to resolve pending court cases quickly through mutual agreement, providing relief to people from lengthy legal proceedings. Let us now explain the types of cases heard in Lok Adalats.

What types of cases are heard in Lok Adalats?

Lok Adalats typically hear cases such as traffic challans, property division, land disputes, matrimonial disputes, municipal tax, house tax, bank recovery, check bounces, insurance claims, and motor accident claims. In these cases, both parties are summoned, and a settlement is reached based on mutual agreement. If a person wishes to have their case settled in Lok Adalat, they must visit their nearest court, obtain information, and submit an application. This is followed by a conciliation process between the two parties. Because Lok Adalats handle cases very quickly, thousands of cases are resolved there every year.

What are the benefits of Lok Adalats?

The biggest advantage of resolving a case through a Lok Adalat is that no court fees are charged. If court fees have already been paid and the case is resolved through the Lok Adalat, the fees are refunded. Furthermore, the Lok Adalat's decision is final and legally binding; it cannot be appealed in any higher court.

Appeal for Greater Public Participation

The District Magistrate of Patna has directed officials to widely publicize the program so that as many people as possible can benefit from it. He has appealed to those with pending cases to resolve their disputes through amicable consent through the Lok Adalat instead of protracted court proceedings.
